The 1st Malaysia Structural Biology Symposium 2023 has been jointly organized by the MSBMB Special Interest Group (SIG)-Structural Biology, in partnership with the Institute of Systems Biology (INBIOSIS, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), Malaysia Genome and Vaccine Institute (MGVI), and Malaysian Society of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (MaSBiC) on the 5th Sept 2023. This symposium brings together Malaysian structural biology experts specializing in macromolecular X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and computational structural biology. Its main goals are to promote knowledge exchange among experts in the field and discuss recent advancements in Structural Biology for research development. During the event, our RUBIC member, Associate Professor Dr. Azzmer Azzar, delivered a presentation in the Computational Structural Biology session. His talk focused on In Silico Design of DNA Hairpin Aptamer for the Detection of Ovarian Cancer Biomarker, contributing valuable insights to the symposium and its attendees.

RUBIC is a research unit focusing on Bioinformatics and Computational biology techniques and integration of both experimental and theoretical studies, we also conduct and organize training, seminar, and meeting to share and disseminate knowledge transfer to the wider research community inside and outside IIUM. This will also become a platform to foster interactions and inter-department, inter-kulliyyah within IIUM as well as external research collaborations. This research group aims to emerge as a center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology that involves scientific research breakthroughs in line with IIUM vision and mission according to the national key priority area.
