ThrowBack Raya

RUBIC members come together at Rubicle to celebrate Hari Raya, rejoicing in the blessings of Eid. The air carries the enticing aroma of delicious dishes, tempting everyone to partake in a feast that embodies unity and togetherness.

NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENT

RUBIC members extend their congratulations to Ahmad Najib bin Mohamad and Kasturi A/P Selvam for successfully completing their research attachment at RUBICLE during March 2023. This marks a significant milestone as they are the first students from the Institute for Molecular Research in Medicine (INFORMM), Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kelantan, to participate in this program. INFORMM is renowned for its pioneering work in aptamer screening using the SELEX technique, and now, RUBICLE is collaborating with them to design and model aptamers for the innovative Aptasensor technology.

RUBIC members extend a warm welcome to Dr. Nurasyikin Hamzah from the Department of Chemistry and Dr. Najatul Su Ad from the Department of Marine Science, Kulliyyah of Science. Both esteemed lecturers are highly knowledgeable in the fields of Bioinformatics & Computational Chemistry. Dr. Nurasyikin is currently engaged in research related to computational-aided drug design, while Dr. Najatul is conducting a study on the Metagenomic of marine microbes. The participation of these two experts at RUBIC showcases the unity of our research unit and the comprehensive expertise in Bioinformatics & Computational Biology for Life Sciences.

RUBIC members extend their congratulations to Dr. Ahmad Tarmizi Che Has for successfully completing his research attachment at RUBICLE, Kulliyyah of Science, IIUM. Dr. Tarmizi, a Neuroscientist from the Department of Neuroscience at USM Kubang Kerian, received training from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azzmer Azzar and Dr. Khairul Bariyyah in Protein Modeling, Molecular Docking, and Membrane Simulation. Throughout the attachment, Dr. Tarmizi accomplished the following modules:

  1. Protein 3D structure modeling of the pentameric GABA receptor using Modeller.
  2. Molecular binding affinity of the GABA receptor with bioactive compounds using Autodock Vina.
  3. Molecular Dynamics Simulation of the GABA Receptor in a bound state, integrated with the human membrane system using Gromacs.
  4. Molecular Visualization of the 3D protein and binding interactions using PyMOL and PLIP.

We hope that the knowledge shared during this six-month attachment will greatly benefit Dr. Tarmizi, especially in his Neuroscience research. Our paths may cross again in the future, and we encourage you to keep in touch. Thank you for your valuable contributions, and best wishes for your future endeavors!
